DOWN TOWN WALKING TOUR
The walking tour starts in the southern perimeter of the Historical Centre, in the Campo de Marte (1) area, where we will visit the Crying Eye (2) sculpture, dedicated to the persons who died during the terrorism period (1980 – 2000). Campo de Marte area was once occupied by the first hippodrome of Lima. This part of the city was characterised by other leisure places, like the zoo and the bicycle circuit. The stadium, a private tennis club and different parks are still located in this area.
Then we will go towards Parque de la Exposición (3) and will visit the Art Museum (4). Leaving the museum, we will take a look to Paseo Colon (5), elegant avenue with French influence that was the fashionable area where rich people use to move after the destruction of the walls. Then will pass in front of the Justice Palace (6), copy of the one of Brussels, and walk through Azangaro street, where we will stop at the Courret Institute (7) to take a look to the pictures of old Lima.
We will arrive to the Parque Universitario (8), where we will visit the Casona de San Marcos (9), oldest University in South America. We will turn left and reach San Martin Square (10), where we will stop at the Bolivar Hotel (11) to take a Pisco Sour. Optional: a sandwich at the traditional Queirolo Bar (12), located in Quilca street, the underground area. Back to Plaza San Martin we will take Jirón de la Unión (13), pedestrian street considered the most important downtown way. After 4 blocks we will turn left and take Ucayali street, where we will stop at the Banco Central de Reserva Museum (14). Continuing by Ucayali street, we will pass in front of Torre Tagle Palace (15), the best example of civil architecture of the XVIII century.
Crossing Abancay Avenue (16) we will reach China Town (17). Optional: we can taste some Chinese plates. Leaving behind China Town we will reach the Congress Square ( 18) where we will visit the Inquisition Museum (19). After this we will reach the Fine Arts School (20), which facade is an interesting example of the Peruvian Style. Before crossing back Abancay Avenue we will visit the Hospicio Ruíz Dávila (21), part of the San Francisco complex, that use to be an immense monastery mutilated by the mentioned avenue during the forties.

We will pass in front of Pilatos House (22) and reach the entrance of the San Francisco Church (23) and Museum. Stop at the Cordano Bar (24). Turning left we will reach Plaza de Armas (25), where are located the Cathedral (26), the City Hall (27) and the Government Palace (28). Turning right we will stop at the Stone Bridge (29), oldest testimony of the city built in 1610. Optional: San Cristóbal Hill Tour (Includes Rímac district and the top of the hill). Next stops: Santo Domingo (30) Square and Oquendo Palace (31). Finally we will reach Tacna Avenue (32) and take a look to the quack shopping area.
